Estrategias de suplementacion y función gastrointestinal en atletas de resistencia

Resumen

La prevalencia de síntomas gastrointestinales en el atleta de resistencia oscila entre el 25% y el 70%. Aunque se reconoce que la etiología del dolor abdominal durante el ejercicio es multifactorial, la redistribución del flujo sanguíneo y por lo tanto la isquemia gastrointestinal (GI) son frecuentemente reconocidos como los principales mecanismos fisiopatológicos mediante los cuales se altera la función de la barrera intestinal y en consecuencia se presentan los síntomas. Esta revisión evalúa los mecanismos fisiopatológicos que afectan la función de la barrera intestinal en consecuencia al ejercicio intenso y prolongado, y analiza diferentes nutrientes y/o fitoquímicos que pueden mejorar o mantener la función de la barrera intestinal en atletas de resistencia y ultrarresistencia en pedestrismo. Se analizan diferentes nutrientes que podrían mejorar la perfusión esplácnica durante el ejercicio, reducir o mejorar la disfunción de la pared gastrointestinal, encontrando que a pesar de que existen algunos estudios en el área, la evidencia científica no respalda su uso en población deportista.
